Week 12 – Phase 4 : Launching Day – 22nd June 2019

It is finally the launching day of the Mini Library! The project was coming to an end and to see the project finishing from the 3 months of hard work students did has paid off. Total of 35 students participated in the launching day on the 22nd June 2019. The students were required to fill in the indemnity form before travel to the site and submit the form to Ms Norji before the event day.

Group 1:  Sponsorship team (17 students)

17 students from the sponsorship team were on-site leading the event day. They were assigned to handle the decorations of the mini library and set up the audio visual. The Project Manager, Darren and Fiona have separate the group into two teams;  the books team decorated the space by settling the balloons and ribbons. Jordan was given the task to handle the balloons whilst Zeeleng's book team prepared the ribbons to be used for the launching gimmick. Earlier that, Fiona and Darren purchased the utensils, paper cups and plates, and napkins for 100 pax since we are expecting to have a maximum of 100 pax on Saturday. The team also helped to set up the tables and the food.

 

Ms. Norji assigned Jordan to purchase the locker and three additional rugs. Some of the sponsorship team were helping him to assemble the cabinet whilst some of the other classmates were putting up balloons on the ceiling. Risca and the team arranged all the stationery on a table besides the cabinet. They were also prepared goodies bags for the children as a souvenir. The students from Group 1 also helped the students from Group 6 to set up and hung the banner at the top part of the entrance.

 

Mr Edwin requested them to wrap few presents for the VIPS and the speakers. They put on a ribbon on the presents for the two speakers while wrapping the other 5 presents using wrapping paper. They were also helped the lecturers arranging the food and serve the community.

 

Group 2: Exterior walls and surrounding (3 students)

There were 3 members from Group 2 joined the launching day leading by Darryl. They were requested to clean the drain and stained at the entrance of the mini-library. They tried to remove the paint on the concrete floor, unfortunately, it was unsuccessful due to the thick stained and lack of detergent. In the end, they just clean the drain and swept the floor. 

Group 3: Interior Walls and wall transformation (10 students)

Lead by Royce Kota, the group 3 team began to install the lockset for the all windows.

 

Group 6: Pre and post, pictures, video, food and logistics (5 students)

All of the students from Group 6 participated in the launching day of the mini library. Yong Zhern and Yanyi arrived site at 10.00am while the rest of the team arrived at 12.00pm. Royce took video of the mini-library after it has been fully transformed. He has to do the editing on the video before the launching.  Roxanne handled the logistics and bought additional plates and cutlery for the guest before the event starts while the rest helped to aid Royce on his video editing. The team were also helping the Group 5 to fix the learning aids which unfortunately broken by the children.

 

At 2.30pm, the event started. Mr. Edwin, be as the emcee entertained the audience while waiting for the rest of the guests to arrive.  Music was played in the room creating a good vibe for the guest. The emcee interacted with the kids with the help of Group 1 team. There were few guests invited for the official launching mainly from Yayasan Salam, Mrs. Zakiah Senin, Mrs.Yusmunirah Yusar and Mr. Mohd. Khairi Bin Hassan. On behalf of Orang Asli Community, the Chairman of the Orang Asli Suku Temuan Village, Mr. Siraj bin Taha officiated the launching. Other than that, the person who is mostly involved during the execution and transformation was the librarian appointed, Ms. Mei Yee Chin joined the event.  A few of the communities as well as the children itself were participated in the event. When all the guests arrived, the progress video was played showing the journey from week 1 till the launching day.  Credit given to Royce, for the effort in compiling and editing the whole journey.

After that, Darren representing the whole team given his speech followed by Ms. Zakiah Senin from Yayasan Salam. She was really happy with the outcome and appreciate the effort shown by the students. The speech then delivered by the Chairman of Orang Asli, Mr. Siraj bin Taha followed by Ms. Norji representing Taylor’s University. Later, everyone were requested to gather outside for the ribbon-cutting ceremony which indicates that the mini library is officially open for the Orang Asli children. The food was served by the students after the event.

 

On the same day, there were also an award giving ceremony which Yayasan Salam managed to inform us about their accomplishment in their studies. The two students were Suraya A/P Dino and Simson Bin Jamal which excelled in their SPM examination. They both received RM350.00 each as recognition.

13:00- Arrival of Guest 

14:00- Opening Ceremony  

14:05- Message from Project Managers 

14:10- Video Presentation 

14:15- Guest Speaker from Salam  

14:25- Guest Speaker from Ulu Melaka Orang Asli Village 

14:35- Gratitude Speech from Taylor’s University  

14:45- Launching Ceremony  

14:50-Token of Presentation and Photo Shoot 

15:00- End of Ceremony

At 4:30pm, the event ended. The students began to clean up the paper plates, cups and the other rubbish before left the site.
