Week 4-9 Progression

Group 1:  Sponsorship team

The entire progression week were spent looking for sponsors. They wrote letters and send to potential company together with phone calls to follow up. Finally, the paint team managed to get Kansai Paint to be as our main sponsor for the mini-library project. For the book team, they designed brochures and paste it around the campus as well as posted on the social media. They also provide a place for drop-off book at the SLC Centre for the donators to donate the reading items. 

 

For the Stationaries team, they managed to collect series of drawing book, empty note book, sets of water colors, brush and pallets, markers, rulers, modelling clay, origami papers, glue, hole puncher, staplers, paper clips, push pins, duster and tapes from the donators. They also recycled the oil pastels themselves using the microwave and spent almost 6 hours to complete this whole sets of the recycles oil pastels.

 

Meanwhile, the furniture team were able to secure RM2500 sponsorship in total. Based on the design given by Group 4, the team went to IKEA accompanied by Ms. Norji and Mr. Edwin to purchase all the items before transformation started. Moreover, some of the students from group 1 volunteered to help out during the 2nd phase for the transformation by assembling the IKEA furniture and placed on-site.

Group 2: Exterior walls and surrounding 

Leon managed the team in three phases of execution. They were fairly split into different task to be done on site. Once they finalised, a few students were assigned to buy the items needed on-site. They went to Mr.DIY shop which located at Sunway Pyramid and bought all the listed items: 

  • Roller Paint Brush

  • Paint Tray

  • Dust Pan

  • Broom

  • Broom Brush

  • Floor Soap

  • Hose

  • Buckets

  • Disposable Gloves

  • Heavy Duty  Garbage bag

  • Acid-Based Detergent

  • Metal Scrapper

  • Masking Tape

 

Other than that, the mural design and the scheme of colour were determined in order for the leader to liaise with the paint theme. The leader communicated closely with Patrick, Group 1 on the amount of colour and paint needed.

Group 3: Interior walls and floor transformation 

The students decided to proceed with the 1stProposal, the ‘Jungle Theme’ rather than the chosen one as they believed the design has similarity with Group 2 Proposal. Ms. Norji advised them to remove the animals characters and add fauna as a subject matters. The team liaise closely with Leon, in regards to the colour needed to be painted on the windows. Finally, both group agreed to apply grey and a dark blue colour on the window panel. 

 

Group 4: Lightingand Book

Nadhirah and Mira were assigned to survey different types of lighting and fans due to the earlier proposal were rejected due to over pricing. They both went to IKEA and purchased the lighting after obtained confirmation on the design with Ms. Norji. The bought 12 units of pendant lights at IKEA and bought 4 units of wall fans which requested by the community. It is an additional items added on site as they found the space are quite stuffy. Moreover, additional cable needed to be purchased after discussion with the electrical man from Yayasan Salam. Due to that, 12metre of grey wire cable were bought for additional wiring on site. The new KDK ceiling fan was also been purchased to replace the unused one on site. They also bought sticker and books stand for the mini-library. On top of it, they also bought the Plug Point case and the socket for the electrical as the current were not functioning. At the end, they sent all the electrical appliances to Yayasan Salam office located at Petaling Jaya for their further action on the installation on site.

 

Jocelyn and Sula were assigned to draw the layout of the site whereas Sobrina, DID student took the lead to provide the checklist for all items to be purchased for the senior to refer. The rest of  the DID students were assigned to filter the books collected by group 1 and sort  categories agreed. All the books were kept at E5.04 studios temporarily before it’s transported to site.

 

They need to label the books according to the age level, code, colour and categories as mentioned:

Age : 6 years and below

1.Education - Yellow Label

2. Story books/Novel - Red Label

 

Age : 7 - 12 years and below

1.Education - Yellow Label

2. Story books/Novel - Red Label

 

Age : 13 - 17 years and below

1.Education - Blue Label

2. Story books/Novel - Magenta Label

3. Magazine - Purple Label

 

By Week 8, they have collected total of 700 books in a different categories and age. Initiatives taken by all the students enrolled to the module, where they have decided to donate at least a book per person for the mini-library. 

Group 6: Pre+post, photography, video, food and logistics 

For group 6, there were facing lots of challenges especially on the logistic part. They were only five of them handling the task towards the end as in the mid of semester, one of the team-mate defer the module due to health issue. The leader divided task as below:

  1. Poster, Social Media and content-Yong Zhern

  2. Logo and Website - Tan Xi Chen

  3. Logo, Photography, video making and editing - Royce Leow

  4. Logistics, Food, Booklet and Banting - Roxanne and Yanyi

 

Yong Zhern, who was assigned to manage the social media, she had to draft a weekly poster and to obtain approval from the group leader and Ms. Norji. She has to post the approved design on social media every week as to create awareness of the project whereas Chen, was in charge on the website and logo design.

 

Roxanne and Yanyi were assigned for the logistics task. They had to plan on the meals during the event day and transportation part for the students. They were a station on-site every week during the transformation phase which was performed on Week 9, 11 and 12. As for video and photography, it was assigned to Royce. With his expertise, he had to record and compile all the phases of work carried out on-site weekly in the video mode. They play the video during the launching day where all the hard work done by the students captured as a memory. Other than that, the students was assigned to design the logo, bunting and the booklet. 

 

As part of integration with Digital Imaging module, students were required to create an e-book for the children benefit. They were divided in three types of subjects; Art, English and Science module for early child hood level. With the guidance from Mr. Jeffery,  they were designing their artwork using the Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop software’s. Initially, the students planned to use the Lenovo Tab 7 for the e-Book, unfortunately, the memory card which was inserted in the tablet stuck and did not performed accordingly as planned. Thankfully, the students bought it with a 1-year warranty.
